As i suspected that would happen.Maybe i was a little hard. Benny when i said that i am a novice after a year, i did not want to disappoint you. I "work" in my model 2-3 hour max in my free time and not all the days.
Perchaps you becoming most able than me in less time
Absolutely, you must not "give up" your model. You must try and retry to finish it. Only in this way you can see yours mistakes and to get better

According the faces (or the polygons) i will try to give you an exable
As you can see in the follow jpg the green area is part of a hull whitch is made with the "skin" tool of sketchup. they are 14 faces (i suppose that are the same in polygons for 3dsmax)
The yellow area is my correction of the hull (manually), they are 6 faces and the result does not affect the shape of the hull
This is one way to riduce the number of the faces.

"give up" should not exist in your vocabulary.... let's say a interruption for meditation :)
