HMNZS Monowai exploring Akaroa Harbour

Monowai was a model I built as a scenery object for FS/P3D and converted. Just trying now to get it sailing right <lol>

Welcome to VSNG, NZ6258. We're glad to have you aboard.

That's a beautiful vessel, your Monowai. Looks to be multi-purpose, like most of the USCG cutters in which I've served. If I can be of any service in creating lifelike properties and elements to make her 'sail right', give me a yell. I've worked up performance parameters for many vessel modelers here and in VSF, based on a career as USCG officer, and recreational boat owner.

Fair winds,

Thanks, I've been a way a wee while but it's great to be back, and VSNG has certainly raised the bar!

HMNZS Monowai (A06) was a hydrographic survey vessel of the Royal New Zealand Navy, and was known as the 'Ghost of the Coast' due to her quietly doing her job around the long and often lonely coastlines of NZ ;-)

I am picking up how things are done in VSNG vs old VS, and getting her working. I may release a beta version for you to have a tinker with ;-)

Cheers

Cool. I go way back in MF and VS...probably 1999. It's been a fun ride. All the joys of real-world boating, without the barnacles, boatyard bills, and barfing over the lee rail.

Good Morning SailorJohn!

I've been sailing a bit now.. and think it's time I called in an expert (see.. that's where you come in) to tune my vessel! Biggest problem I have is getting her to turn at low speed, even Sydney harbour is hard work ;-)

Oh, and I've turned her back into an "Island Trader" as she was prior to refit for RNZN Service.. so 2 versions, same ship, different paint :)

I can make her available (warts and all) if you want to do some fettling?

Cheers

Today I bought the scenery from Sim3D based around southern Sweden, including the Port of Gothenburg. Here is my model of the Jahre Viking, being given a helping hand from a tug into the oil terminal.

As she is the largest and longest ship there is, it won't be an easy task, but this tug is determined to help.

Somewhere outside the Port of Gothenburg... she was all too large and had a far too great draft to be able to dock in port... so here she's waiting for a smaller tanker to dock beside for some oil transfer...

... and here she is again... on sea trials. The stats are accurate, a turning circle of two nautical miles. According to her captain Surinder Kumar Mohan, whom I've actually talked to on Facebook, when I used that... (nowadays I stick to forums)
