Sliders

Postby ilan » Wed Feb 04, 2009 11:22 am

Dear Wyre,

Thanks for the idea, have you tried to use the vehicle design mode, you can edit properties there on the fly,
i will add perhaps a slider there as well, but it certainely has this function.

Please test and tell me what is missing.

p.s. You have sliders on the elements and components tabs, there you can really go wild, editing everything in real time,
including engine positions and type, bouyancy of exact hull points and more.
Thank you,

I found a small bug:
There seems to be a 0.1% difference between the HUD and yellow writing (see attachment) it happens every second setting ie at 5% bath settings are the same but at 10% the HUD shows 11% and so on.

I've come across a small problem here. I've imported VS boats in virtually every beta version of VSF. Up until 2.8, the Vehicle.cfg for the vast majority of VS imported boats did not show boat_length. Presumably VSF used other means to determine length for bowsplash placement. With the introduction in 2.8 of the Design tab, it is now possible to bring up and edit in-game virtually all the cfg parameters. That's great for fine-tuning the cfg! HOWEVER...if VSF doesn't see boat_length in the Vehicle.cfg (as is the case for most imports prior 2.8), it provides a default boat_length of 15m (Ranger's size)! All the other cfg parameters are drawn verbatim from Vehicle.cfg, but the default boat_length will input that parameter(15m) to the cfg if you click 'apply', 'load', or 'save' for any other parameter...really screwing up the cfg, especially if it's a 400m tanker!!!
I just went back through my entire Vehicles folder and added correct boat_length in meters to all boat cfgs to prevent inadvertently adding the 15m default. I'd suggest other VSF users do the same...or consider deleting and reinstalling VS boats to let 2.8 add boat_length to cfg.
Ilan...is there any easy workaround for this, like leaving boat_length blank in Design tab unless it's already specified in Vehicle.cfg...or calculating it automatically when Design tab is selected?

Dear John,

Thanks for telling me, i have fixed it now, it will appear on beta 2.9
You would not belive how silly this bug was, it seems the boat_length appears as boat_lenght (!)
in most boat.cfg files...

Now it will recognize this as well.

The bow wave placement is related to another method completly, the program renders the boat into memory, and used the side view
to determine bow wave placement, after boat import and first run you should see two files appear inside the directory:

profile.dds and deck.dds, these are rendered by the program for caclulating wave position and water hiding,
if any user has a prblem with bow waves please check for the existance of this file, and if it is not as clear as the
attached example please email me asap and attach your file, and logfile.txt

Will future versions of VSF support Force Feedback joysticks? Mine is a MS FF2. Always missed that feature in MF, and so far in VSF.
