I agree with DM, and that applies to land vehicles as well.

Thanks for the great comments, it has helped me find issues i have not fixed before,
i have fixed the wheels problem and it will show on beta 2.9.

Thanks again, these comments are very helpful, i will do my best to fix as many issues as possible. 8-)
Thank you,

Dear John,

The plane.cfg is the old file used by Micro Flight, after the vehicle is imported the file vehicle.cfg is created,
then we dont need the plane.cfg any more.

I did not delete this file because i wanted it to be left for refence in case you left some paramter or readme inside.
Thank you,

Dear John,

Sure it does, use the property editor to change and save your settings,
i feel that you are editing the plane.cfg and not the vehicle.cfg so you dont see
the differences it makes.
Thank you,

Hi Ilan,

The vehicle.cfg file is, for me, too analatycal to be able to define accuratly a sailplane (and also any fixed wing plane): very often we don't know what are the values of the different parameters.
As far as sailplane simulation is concerned, i think we need to obtain the general behaviour that is mostly defined with the polaire, and polaire for to-day sailplanes are avalaible on the constructor sites.
Could you give us some calculation formulea to obtain a given polaire or at least to reach the basic behaviour:
- stall speed
- best ratio and corresponding speed
- least descend speed and corresponding speed?

For myself, i am unable to relate the vehicle parametere to these characteristiques.

Thank again for your sim and for the new born documentation: we will be able now to start designing new models.
Sincerely
Jean-François

Dear JFL,

I will explain now about the polar and how to extract the data for the configuration file and property editor:

Assuming you have a glider ( with wing with high aspect ratio ) the polar of the wing is very similar to the polar of the
glider itself, if you have a plane with shorter wings ( less AR ) you need to make sure you have the polar of the plane
itself and not the polar of the wing profile, because the wing has small aspect ratio, so it will not be efficient as
the polar of the profile itself.

Next there are several paramters to explain:

Cd0 - this is the minimal drag ceffienct of the wing when no lift is acting upon it ( zero angle of attack )

CLa - this is the slope of the lift line as measured against angle of attack ( in radians )

Alm - this is the maximum angle of attack of the wing ( radians ) before stall.

Al0 - this is the angle of attack of the wing when the plane is horizontal ( radians )

CDi - this is the paramter which gives the relation netween total drag of the wing and its lift
it is custom to approximate the total drag coefficnet of the wing as:

CD = Cd0 + CDi*Cl^2

To understand more about these paramters i attach a very good file.
