propeller pitch

Are you having problems building or configuring a vehicle addon for VSF or would you like to discuss techniques? This is where to do it!

propeller pitch

Postby syrphid » Sun Apr 29, 2012 9:46 pm

Hello everybody!

Please help! I couldn't find the propeller pitch in the Vehicle Simulator. I had just learned how to use it in the Micro Flight and it works well, but it disappeared from the VSF.
And what variable pitch values correspond to 100% and 0% by default?

Thanks in advance

I mean propeller pitch parameter in config files (vehicle, elements) to adjust plane characteristics.
For exhample in the Micro Flight plane.cfg:

[glider_type] 1 - conventional
[has_engine] 1 - propeller
[prop_pitch] Propeller pitch (In)
[prop_diam] Propeller diameter (In)
[pitch_ratio] max/min propeller pitch ratio ( typical 1.65 ), 1 - for constant pitch.

Propeller pitch is not mentioned in the VSF help, does it mean that it is not not supposed in the Vehicle Simulator?

Deutschmark, thank you very much for your reply.

If we use only the keys, how can the constant pitch (climb, cruise or high-speed) be used?
You see, we choose the plane with this very parameter but at same time we do not define its meaning.
Certainly we may use the keys, but this is possible for the variable pitch.
And that is the contradiction, because in order to use the constant pitch we have to use the variable pitch! :-)

Here is an information from Ilan.

In a few words, the program calculates the nominal pitch (nom_pitch) as a function that is:

- directly proportional to the engine power (motor_hp) and is
- inversely proportional to the squared propeller diameter (prop_diam) and
to the maximal rpm (rpm_max).

For the variable pitch:
- 100% corresponds to nom_pitch
- 0% corresponds to nom_pitch * 1.65.

This margin should give good speed range for standard planes.
For nonstandard planes one can try to change prop diameter.

As far as I understand, it has a maximal (squared) effect.

I am going to make a try.
