Railing edge to hull won't be smooth?

Are you having problems building or configuring a vehicle addon for VSF or would you like to discuss techniques? This is where to do it!

Railing edge to hull won't be smooth?

Postby saken » Sat Apr 15, 2017 11:48 am

Dear community,

I reach out once again, this time the error lies in the railing to the hull, the edge in between there. It won't get smooth, like other edges along the hull that are supposed to be smoothed, are smoothed.

Either I'm just plain stupid, or simply haven't figured out how to do it.

I want this edge to be invisible.

I am not a Blender expert. But without getting into detail, convert your file to DirectX and open it in the VSF.
From my experience, such edges disappear sometime.

Hi Syrphid,

Sadly that doesn't make any difference. I believe it has something to do with the shading... I'll look more into it. Meanwhile, anyone is free to reply with a solution or tip.

Howdy.
In AC3D you can merge the parts and the seam will disappear.
Not sure in Blender

Or you could simply accept a visual seam there. In reality that is a welded seam, and given the stresses and hard knocks a monster ship like this sustains, the welded hull plates tend to 'wrinkle' over time...just as we do. So a shadow line at that point is not unrealistic. Having served in many ships and commanded a few, most ships begin to show their welded seams along frame and longitudinal lines, with visible 'dishing' concavity in between, as they age.

John, that's some useful information right there. Thanks the share :) (I admit though I'm still kinda curious as why that seam won't disappear :P).

I confirm, mergers of the possible vertices with AC3D and the borders smooth with rounding.
This function should exist in Blender.

Thanks for your helpful reply jpb63. This is what it looks like in Blender. the foremost vertex is connected to three edges, but it's the only vertex at the forepeak, no other.

Would not there be a "weld" function for vertex in Blender ?

There is indeed under merge -> collapse.
