I am reassured now. But please keep the boxes the right side up to avoid spill. ;)
Cheers, Reino.

They should, but I don't think keeping them right side up was high on Charlie's list ;)

I've added the winch up on the fo'c'sle, but even though it was meant to be a salmony browny sort of colour, it didn't look right so I've made it match the hull, which I think looks better.
I still need to add the rope that's not wound onto the winch, but coiling over the entire winch.

She also has a "working" steam pressure gauge.

I say "working" because it's actually an RPM indicator, but operates as the steam pressure gauge, in that the more steam (rpm) makes the dial increase. It reaches about 150 when under full steam.

Textures still need to be finished, but she's almost done! Image

Except the engine, it's all modeled, but I'm having trouble with animations. The Rhino addon "Bongo" doesn't export animations, and while I've downloaded a trial of 3ds Max to use to animate the engine, when I did a test, it never worked in VSF... I need to look into it more...

Thanks Sean and John!

I have some very good news - I figured out animations! Things were going wrong when exporting, so even though there were animation frames, in VSF everything was piled up at 0,0,0, and there was no animation. Anyway, today I worked around that, and present to you, the animated engine, which also works in game!

Image

Just imagine it's in the engine frame, and is sitting in the African Queen ;)
I know it's not perfect, but I'm still very new to animations :)
(I really hope it operates as one would in real life - I don't really like animating and don't particularly want to have to animate it again!)

I've done it as a pilot animation, so then I could set how fast for it to animate when at full speed, but there are some drawbacks. When at neutral on the throttle, the animation plays at 50%, and will only stop when you're at 0% on the throttle, which is also full speed reverse.
I could have used the engine.x but that animates WAY too fast, so it's not usable for this.
At least it's better than nothing, though! :) Now you can sit at the tiller and see the engine clunking away!

Looks brilliant, Sam...perseverance pays off! As for the throttle, those of us using joystick throttle probably won't have any problems, since we don't reverse at 50%.
