ULCC Seawise Giant (Payware)

So... at last... I'm on my very first WIP for ANY game, in my life...

Starting back in 2006, with 3ds Max 8, now using 2013. I give credit to Sellu A.K.A. Sami Matthews for inspiring me to build my very own model of this magnificent ship. It's definitely gonna take a while before this, "ride" is over... But I don't tend to write a long letter about this WIP, here is the first image:

Slowly, but surely, I'm shaping the hull. I have done the Project 1 - The Tallented Ball from 3D Buzz, and will now put my skills to test to see what I can achieve when this is over... but now... back to work!

Glad to see you're using plans, not 'winging it' as do so many modellers. I wish you good luck on this project, but wonder whether starting with a much smaller, simpler boat wouldn't be a better way to learn the ropes.

Greetings Sailorjohn!

Yes, I do have enormous will-power, especially now. The harder and longer the task, the stronger and more brute force I get.

I restarted the WIP, the first bulb looked like... well... not like a bulb.

Anyway, now the HUGE task, shaping the bulb!

Dear Deutchmark,

Thanks for posting the link to that video :)

I will need to shape the bulb still, but so far, everything seems to go according to plans :D

And so... I'm home from high school, only to throw myself into 3ds Max again, now fully occupied with shaping the bulb. Will widen the hull later as well, and attatch it to the deck.

The bulb is coming along nicely! But now I got one new problem: Is there some way I can "weld" the hull together with the deck?

Also... I cannot zoom extent to selected sub-objects when I have "toggle show end result" on, is this a bug?

Hi Saken,

Welcome to the community. This is only a suggestion, but have you thought of using "Ready Made" hulls which are available on DEFLTShip.net ? The Hull Modelling software has just been updated aswell (Version 5), its Free to download, as are the hull templates, which are free to use and modify for your own projects. I use it for all my models now, its easy to use. If you're using 3DS Max (I'm using 2009, need an update, but very expensive), you can export the hull forms from DELFTShip as .OBJ and import them into 3DS Max without out any problems (You just need to rotate the X,Y,Z to meet the correct directions). Have a look.... http://www.delftship.net/delftship/

Best Regards,

Jason

Thanks for your reply Jason! I think I have seen that software in the past, and maybe I should give it a try.

I recently remembered the symmetry modifier, and that could help me if I decide to model only the half of the hull, and then let the symmetry modifier shape the other half. As I decided to re-start shaping the hull.

I'm now shaping the bulb again... I must admit... this WIP will be a Ride of a Lifetime, but I will NOT give up, I will keep my head high :D

Anyway, I will study the model by Sellu, and try to shape the bulb the same like he did, but I will ONLY use his model as a reference, NOTHING else.

I have noticed this:

When I render anything, I get these "dark lines" across my model. Can someone tell me why? I'm using 3ds Max 2013.
