Wave Direction

Postby o2jmpr » Fri Jun 03, 2016 7:40 pm

I would like to suggest that in the future we may be able to specify wave direction.
For example, in the area I'm sailing right now, WX reports are winds from 085@8knots but wave direction is 140@1meter. As it is now, the wave direction gives away the wind direction and takes a bit of the fun out of trimming sails based on speed or "feel".

Now that would be nice.
In a perfect world there would be swell in one direction and wind waves on top so to speak from the direction of the wind.
Probably impossible.

Of course just dreaming here, but waves that react to reefs and shallow waters, as in breakers/surf would be way too cool.
That would make sailing Maui or any other coastline really impressive.

Specifically, I mean sliders for wave height, length, period and direction and then yes, an amazing bonus feature would be wind waves on top.

I've personally had a hell of a time getting my water to look and behave the way I want. Same goes for skies, I've found it's difficult to get a dark and high 100% overcast day without introducing fog and severely limiting visibility. IOW: it could be a really dark, dreary day but with great visibility.

For that, you can edit the colormap.txt file.

That's beyond the scope of my current knowledge with VSF but I'll check into it! Thanks Dom!

Thanks Coleco. Yes, I have taken the time to tweak and experiment with each option of waves and weather. I do know about the sliders that are available but I neglected to say that in my post. Thanks for the input though! I appreciate it.

VSF offers a very realistic environmental choice.
Moreover, these effects are proportional to the size of your boats.
