Tutorial: How to Use Real-World GIS Data in VSF

Postby flyingndiving » Sun Feb 07, 2010 5:47 am

The intent of this tutorial is to help the user convert real world GIS data into absolute object files which can then be used for scenery creations in VSF. GIS data could include roads, railways, airport locations, navigation aids, etc. The tutorial can be found here: http://www.mediafire.com/?oyndi1jlv0y

Feel free to contact me for comments or improvements.

Best Regards,

Mark

Thank you Mark, your tutorial is most welcome. I have printed it out but have to wait for my new PC before I can try to follow your advisees. They seem to be straight forward and I hope I can benefit from it.
Cheers, Reino.

Wow, great tute Mark. I found this link 404ed on me though.... http://ocs-spatial.ncd.noaa.gov/encdirect/viewer (from P.1). Also, one has to register to download at the geocomm site.

Thanks for the input. I see there are a couple of grammar errors as well (late night), and perhaps the Austrian roads example isn't the best to use since it's so CPU intensive.. I started a Puerto Rico scenery, and I think that would be a better suited as there are a few less roads to deal with

A good source for maritime navaids is http://mappe.c-marina.com/main/prehome.asp . Unfortunately small layout but you get all lights and landmarks. Just click...click... :)
