How to have more than 8 wheels in VSF

Postby matto_mati » Tue Jan 31, 2012 7:32 am

I don't know why my WIP m-113 post has been locked up and sent to the Repository along with other good WIPs both mine and form other molders but such is life I guess.
One of the first comment about my M-113 APC was that "the wheels did not spin".
Well I made the model that way because VSF supports only up to 8 wheels while the M-113 has 14 (7 on each side).
And to be fair they are not called wheels the correct names are in the picture below:

In order to fix the 8 wheel limit I had to think out of the box.

Using two bogies, instead of one, placed along the same axis.
The bogies spin along the the "z" axis so if there are more than one of them it wont matter too much.
The same goes for the sprockets and idlers all placed in the part.cfg file but since the x value is zero the vehicle will tilt and fall to one side.

The solution to this new problem is to use elements.
So the elements.cfg file controls the way the vehicle will behave and the parts.cfg file controls where the "wheels" are.

I hope you all found this tutorial informative this method could be used for all land vehicles not just tracked ones.
