How do I maintain depth in a sub?

I have this complaint too. There should be a variant of an airplane auto-pilot that allows for a depth hold instead of Sail control. Oh well.... The answer is that you have to dive to whatever depth you wish and then use ballast to level your ascent/descent rate to zero. This is a tricky and time consuming task. I usually use the hud and look for perfect level then watch it for a while to make sure it doesn't drift. eg. If you show a +20fpm ascent from 100' down and walk away, you'll be on the surface in 5 minutes.

I don't look for this issue to ever be corrected. I don't think there is enough interest in subs. It's my personal favorite though. I'm currently underway on an around-the-world voyage.
