Creation of a landscape of a section of a river or a separate port of any locality

Hello everyone. I don't know if there are still people active here on the forum. But I want to start creating a section of a river or a seaport, or both. I would like to hear your interest in this project and help me decide on the site to start work on the creation. In principle, I can do everything and create a section of the terrain and create 3D models, but I don't know where to start that would be interesting to everyone. I'm waiting for your suggestions.

It seems like this forum has been forgotten by people. It's very sad.

Hello Barsonchik,
I don't think the forum has been completely forgotten.
However, I've noticed that every user has different ideas about the perfect scenery. Some want large harbors for large ships, others want small, cute harbors for small recreational boats.
What interests you most?
I also find rivers exciting, but:
- There is no current in VS.
- Rivers are often significantly higher than sea level, which makes implementation in VS more complex.
- Locks therefore have no function.
The "1000 Islands" could be an exciting river, i.e. the St. Lawrence River between Lake Ontario and Brockville, see YouTube.
The river is about 73m above sea level here and has almost no gradient.
Advantages:
- Large ships can navigate the passage
Disadvantages:
- 73m above sea level
- No connection to the sea
- The small islands, there don't have to be 1,000 of them, have to be built by hand
- Lots of trees
When creating a new map, please don't make the terrible mistake of setting the water depth incorrectly.
The big advantage of VS and its predecessors is is that the water bottom can be well represented, and you can also dive in the game.
Unfortunately, I don't know of any other ship simulator that allows this.
Christian

Just adding my two cents worth...
There is still some life left in this forum; some of us drop by every day just to see if there's anything new. The topic of sceneries is of great interest, and there are an increasing number of impressively detailed versions, especially in northern Europe. New sceneries are always welcomed. Unfortunately, there is no longer a single repository of VSNG/VSF content. It is scattered across the internet in many venues and languages...Discord and Facebook, for example. Wish there was a single content directory.
River sceneries do present some complications, but they're not insurmountable. Default water levels can be used, and be preset in Situations and Readme for entry to the scenery. Water level can be shown at intervals on Map. There is, in fact, VS current...adjustable in direction and velocity, and updating with weather. But it can't be aligned to river orientation without manual input.
Go with your gut!

I agree about the locks on the river. You can adjust the water level using the settings, after all, this is at least some opportunity to implement the locking of ships.
I am a fan of this simulator, I agree that indeed, there is nothing like this in the world yet. But it really lacks landscapes. Indeed, unfortunately, there is no common storage and add-ons are scattered across the Internet, which, unfortunately, are not always possible to find.
My idea at first was like this. To recreate the ports of countries, for example, starting from some country in the Baltic Sea and around Europe along the coast, through Turkey to Africa, going around it and going further along the continent, until I return to the starting point again. Colossal work, but there would be a lot of ports. But I would have to create separate maps for each port, whether this is reasonable or not, I do not know.
But then I still wanted to implement some section of the river, starting from its mouth in the sea, where there is a seaport and moving upstream. Still, it would be an interesting experience of river navigation, when the landscape outside the window is constantly changing and you need to control the movement of the vessel.
But my main idea is to build the environment as realistically as possible. 3D models of objects should not be detailed, but at least in a simplified version, and similar to real ones, using various sources from the Internet, such as photographs and street panoramas.
It would be great to ride in this simulator to places that would be close to reality, even if you have never been there, it will be like a virtual excursion.
I looked a little on the map for rivers that could be recreated. And so far my choice fell on the Seine. Starting from the seaport in the city of Le Garve and continuing at least to the city of Rouen. Judging by the information from the Internet, sea vessels also go to this city.
If there are any other ideas on this matter, I am ready to listen.

If only MSFS 2024 would optimize user interface with vessels...the global scenery and graphics, including seas and rivers, is ready and waiting!

Hi Barsonchik! Hi everybody!
No this forum isn't dead...just a bit sleepy and our community is very much alive all over the world
(although split in different geographical areas and platforms).
On the matter of rivers sceneries, there were at least 5 existing sceneries of Russian rivers (big ones)
most probably designed by one of our forum contributor (i_i_andrew_i_i) and actively used by members of Russian River Simulator forum
(
https://vk.com/russianriversimulator).
These sceneries and tens of river ship models were hosted at a website apparently and unfortunately terminated (
https://keel-mods.ru).
However, it is possible to find download links that are still active by following some threads on the forum, as well as pictures or videos.
You could have a look. BTW locks are indeed used for changing water level ...
Cheers!
