Measuring a X model quickly/properly in Deep Exploration?

Alright, so...

I'm in Deep Exploration, went up to Window -> Toolbars -> Measurements and I got what I needed.

Now, the question is, without getting too complicated, how do I quickly measure the entire length of a ship?
Computer Type: Desktop
Model: Custom-made
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 Pro (64-bit)
Processor: Intel Core i7 (2nd generation) 3.07 GHz
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470

I have this question... lol weird my latest ship wont convert to correct size
